I got to spend part of Valentine’s Day with Melissa and Derek and it was lovely to get to share in their love. The day of our shoot was freezing– polar vortex cold. Luckily for me, Melissa and Derek just exemplified warmth they welcomed me into their cozy home.
Sometimes at photo shoots I feel like music would be the perfect addition (either a client’s playlist or mine)– and while taking pictures I brought this up– and in a flash Derek had the traveling speakers up and running. It set a light-hearted tone and even led to a little impromptu dancing! You’ll also notice that some of their paint colors are perfect- so bold and awesome. Just the right tone of yellow on one wall and deep purple on the others. The sheets for their growing baby girls’ bed arrived while I was there so we took a moment to put together the nursery. Derek even surprised Melissa with a bear she had received years ago, that had been thoughtfully stored away.
So on this day that it was waayy too cold to go outside, we were brave and stepped out into the arctic tundra for a few minutes. Melissa is from Virginia and does not like the snow to begin with so it was a pretty big deal she went out there at all! The visualizations I provided of sweet tea on a hot summer day from Melissa’s time in Richmond was not effective in keeping us warm but Derek once again saved the day with a Packer’s hat for another layer of warmth and stoked the fire to end our session.
Melissa called it years ago on New Year’s Eve that her and Derek would have a really sweet cute baby, and sure enough– they did. Check back for the newborn pictures because I got to meet their little healthy happy Zoe for her first photo shoot (coming soon!)
