Katie and Will traveled from their home base in Madison to get married lakeside in Hayward, Wisconsin at her grandparent’s summer cabin that has stayed in the family. The day began with pouring rain and right as things were about to begin, the sky opened up and sun shined down on everyone– which is rumored to be a special blessing from the grandparents who weren’t able to join them. From there on the out, the day continued organically and elegantly, with many fun surprises from Will coming out on a boat to Katie samba dancing. The images tell the story best. Enjoy!
What was your favorite part of your wedding celebration and/or the planning process leading up to it?
My favorite part was the day. It was the best day. We celebrated joy and love with all of our closest friends. I want to re-live that day over and over. Amazing people, amazing food, beautiful weather…could not have had a better wedding day!!
One of Ray and Gina’s favorite things about the wedding:
Katie and Will’s wedding was all on the same piece of land and they utilized the space and their timeline so creatively. Before the ceremony, guests were invited to a pre-reception where they could visit Katie in one area and Will in another. It was a unique idea and maximized time with guests.
Gina: Since Katie is a friend, it was especially meaningful to be behind the scenes and it was so much fun to samba dance along side her at the wedding reception (keep scrolling down to see the awesome action shots, obviously taken by ray)! It was soaking wet when we came out to the dance floor in our samba outfits, so we wore giant plastic garbage bags on our feet and did the dance an extra time upon Katie’s request.
What advice would you give other couples getting married (either about planning or the wedding itself)?
Planning: don’t fret about the details, just focus on the big pieces that are important. Ask for help, but remain focused on YOUR vision for your wedding. Take a honeymoon a few days after the wedding!! Will be great fun to reminisce about your big day. The day of: JUST HAVE FUN!!!
Why did you go with Gina and Ray as your photographers?
We chose Gina and Ray because of their beautiful editorial photos. We wanted to capture the moments of the day and their photography does exactly that. We wanted candid photos so that we experienced the day over and over again while looking at the pictures. They were such a great team to work with and somehow were invisible during the day! They made the family photos fun and easy with a lot of kiddos. Would suggest anyone to hire these two! They are such a great team and you will love the photos 🙂
